Spiritual Exercises
in Everyday Life

  of Puget Sound

What is Involved in the Retreat?

Who Can Participate?
What is Expected of Participants?
What is the cost?

This retreat is best suited for those who have established a discipline of regular personal prayer, have experience of sharing their spiritual journey with another, and who are called and committed to deepening personal faith and nurturing the seeds of a spirituality that transforms human society. People of varied backgrounds and Christian traditions, and people who are active as well as those who are contemplative have benefited from the Exercises. They are not exclusive.

An application, which includes personal references and a faith autobiography, is required. Acceptance in the retreat is dependent on readiness for this experience (established personal prayer and previous experience sharing one's spiritual journey) and the availability of spiritual directors. We cannot (and should not) take everyone who applies.

S.E.E.L. Puget Sound is one program with two separate settings. Groups meet in Tacoma at St. Leo Church and in Seattle at St. Joseph Church. Participants have come from all over Western Washington.       top of page

What is Expected of Participants?

Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life (S.E.E.L.) of Puget Sound offers this experience to participants living in and around the Seattle/Tacoma area.

This retreat is best suited for those who have established a discipline of regular personal prayer, have experience of sharing their spiritual journey with another, and who are called and committed to deepening personal faith and nurturing the seeds of a spirituality that transforms human society.

There is no one method of Ignatian prayer: Ignatius drew on a number of sources, and the Exercises contain different kinds of prayer. A readiness to pray with scripture is important, but there is opportunity for stillness too. They are oriented to mission and rooted in contemplation.

The Exercises develop characteristics which then become part of daily life. Firstly, retreatants become better able to discern their inner desires and to see how God is working in their lives and in the world. Secondly, they learn how to bring together contemplation and action. And thirdly, they become increasingly aware of the presence and activity of God in all things.    top of page

What is the Cost?

If you feel called to participate in the retreat at this time, and your application is accepted, we want you to be able to make the retreat regardless of your financial circumstances. Each retreatant is asked to make a good faith offering, to be paid over the course of the retreat year. We operate on a “fair share” pledge system. Some are able to give more, some less. We trust that if each of you faithfully considers your offering, there will be enough for all.

Alumni, spiritual directors with this retreat, the Oregon Province Jesuits and others continue to give support toward this retreat so that ALL who desire and are committed will be able to participate. If you would like to participate in the retreat, please contact the SEEL staff regarding your pledge. We can be reached by phone at 206-721-3518  or email  info@seelpugetsound.org.
